Our Denomination
Glen Ellyn Evangelical Covenant Church is a member of the Evangelical Covenant Church of America (ECC). Founded in 1885 by Swedish Immigrants, the ECC values the Bible as the Word of God, the gift of God's grace, the ever-deepening spiritual life that comes through faith in Jesus Christ, the importance of extending God's love and compassion to a hurting world, and the strength that comes from unity within diversity. To learn more about our beliefs, see our Affirmations of Faith.
In recent years, the ECC has been growing rapidly, and now consists of more than 700 churches in the U.S. and Canada. About 200,000 people are affiliated with the Covenant in North America. The ECC continues to build on its immigrant heritage: over twenty percent of our congregations today are either ethnic or multi-ethnic. The Covenant currently is also involved in 14 different major foreign mission fields, not counting several countries in which short-term missionaries are serving.
Church planting is a major thrust for the denomination at this time. More than 50,000 people attend Covenant churches that we have started in the last decade, and last year more than 12,000 people came to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ through the ministries of our Covenant churches.
Some of the significant ministries of the ECC include:
Our congregation has a long tradition of commitment to the denomination. Several of our members serve on denomination and conference boards, and many of the children and youth of the church enjoy attending our conference's well regarded Covenant Harbor and Covenant Point summer camps.
