Ministries for Families and Children

Welcome to The Greenhouse, Children’s Ministries at Glen Ellyn Covenant Church, a place where little hearts are getting great starts and kids are growing in Christ!  Our mission is to partner with families to help children become growing followers of Christ. Working together we can provide the best possible conditions for growth by:

Looking Up Worshipping God
Digging Deeper  Going deeper in God’s Word and in relationships with one another
Reaching Out  Serving and sharing God’s love with others

Sprouts
For nursery and preschoolers

Our nursery and preschool children are precious to us. They will be cared for by volunteers who understand the importance of giving even the youngest children in our church a strong start in their faith development. Their morning is full of fun, music, activities, and snacks that all allow them to experience and interact with Bible stories at an age-appropriate level.

  • Classes during worship at 9:30am
  • Sunday School resumes on September 7

 Groundbreakers
For Kindergarten through 5th graders

Each year of elementary school finds children breaking new ground as they grow and change. They are asking lots of questions and facing many new challenges. During this time in their life, we want to help them put down strong roots in their faith and give them an opportunity to come to know Jesus.

The curriculum we use for both Sunday morning and Tuesday night, called 252 Basics, is based on what Jesus modeled in Luke 2:52, “And Jesus grew in wisdom and stature and favor with God and man.” Our desire is for every child to grow up and say:  I need to make the WISE choice; I can TRUST God no matter what; I should treat OTHERS the way I want to be treated.

We place a high value on family worship, and children participate in the first part of our worship service at 9:30am with their parents before they are dismissed to Children’s Worship.

  • Children’s Worship during the second half of the service at 9:30am
  • Sunday School and midweek activities break for the summer but will resume on September 7

 Jonathan's Kids
For families of children with special needs

Jonathan’s Kids is designed to support, encourage and equip families of children with special needs. Shadows are available for special needs children on Sunday mornings or for other programs as needed. Parents network with one another by attending monthly support group meetings as well as socials and occasional family activities.

  • Parent Support Group - 3rd Monday of each month at 7:00pm at various homes
  • Sunday School resumes on September 7
  • Sunday shadows available upon request

The Family Tree
Family Resources

Family Connection
gives parents and kids an introduction to our monthly themes and provides a time for families to learn, worship, serve, interact and have fun together.  Meets on the first Tuesday of the month, from 7:00-8:00pm (Sept.-April).

Workshops, Sunday School classes and special programs throughout the year are offered to support  parents in the important task of developing their children spiritually.

The Greenhouse Newsletter is our monthly publication full of news about what’s happening in our Children’s Ministries programs.

Family Times Virtue Packs are a monthly companion resource to our curriculum designed to assist your family in reinforcing faith and values in your home. They can be purchased through the church office or at www.familywise.org.

Kidzone, our children’s library, is filled with great Christian books and media for your family to check out on a weekly basis.

Lunch Bunch, a fun and informal summer gathering for kids and parents.  Bring your own picnic lunch, and invite your friends!  We meet at different parks in Glen Ellyn and Wheaton during June, July, and August.

The Ark
For 3, 4, and 5 year olds

The Ark, a licensed preschool and ministry of the church, has been in operation since 1971. Our goal is to provide a warm, caring environment where each child will be accepted and affirmed as a unique individual, created in God’s image, and encouraged to grow at his or her own rate.

For an application, please call Donna Svensen, Director of The Ark Preschool (630-858-7755).
