WELCOME REFUGEES THROUGH WORLD RELIEF CHICAGOLAND!

Today, there are over 84 million people around the globe who have been forced, or made the painful choice, to leave their home. After years of fleeing violence, famine and extreme poverty, their greatest hope is that they’ll find a safe place to rebuild their lives and call home.

We have an opportunity to help through our ministry partner, World Relief Chicagoland!  World Relief Chicagoland (which is unrelated to our other ministry partner, Covenant World Relief)  helps churches in the Chicago area welcome refugees and immigrants into our community.

This past Sunday we heard from fellow GEECC'er Deborah Wright about her experience serving as a refugee Medical Advocate Volunteer.  Jim Hudson currently serves as a "Friendship Volunteer", Pastor Jeff is a Transportation Volunteer, and Darren Miller is an Apartment Setup Volunteer.  And, of course, many of us have enjoyed friendships with our Bhutanese and Burmese sister congregations who settled here through World Relief.  If you would like to volunteer, contact any of the volunteers listed above, or visit World Relief's volunteer page.

Our love offering this month supports World Relief Chicagoland.  To make a contribution, memo your check to "Love Offering" or "World Relief Chicagoland", or give online on our website and select "Give to World Relief Chicagoland".

THE WORK OF THE PEOPLE

When we gather for communal/corporate worship on Sunday mornings, we are given an order of worship that guides our participation in conversation with God. This order that contains prayer, scripture, song, silence, and communion is called ‘the liturgy’. Translated, the word liturgy means the work of the people. For most of us who work Monday – Friday, the thought of having to work in worship on a Sunday seems uninviting! However, worship liturgy calls us into full participation, into engagement, action, and response to God and his people. It’s an encouraging, restoring, and re-membering work.

This communal worship work is at it’s best when it is led by members of the community – the church. You are needed! You are needed to show up in the summer when you’re around. You are needed to help set up/clean up and serve communion. You are needed to read scripture. You are needed to usher/greet others as they come to our worship space. You are needed to serve coffee after worship as an extension of the hospitality that Christ just gave us in worship at his Table. You are needed to learn how to operate projection, streaming, and sound during worship. You are needed to love and care for children during worship.

You are needed because we function at our best as Christ followers when we do it together!

If you have any questions about how you can help out on a Sunday morning, contact any staff member.

We love you and need you,

ALL CHURCH BARBEQUES ARE BACK!

Come join us at an open house barbecue every Wednesday from 5-7pm at Jeff & Jori’s backyard (1260 Shady Lane. Come enjoy your church community as we gather in fellowship together. The Barbecues will run from June 8th through August 17th (There will be no Barbecue on June 22nd, or July 6th). We hope to see you this summer!

LOST AND FOUND BEING CLEANED OUT

In an effort to keep our church beautiful and clean, we are updating and throwing old things out including items that’s been in lost and found for a very long time.

If you or a loved one has lost something at the church please stop by lost and found to see if your item is there.

At the end of June we will be throwing everything away so please don’t wait to take a look over there to see if you have something you might want to retrieve.

SUPPORT “CANS FOR CHANGE” & COVENANT WORLD RELIEF & DEVELOPMENT

For more than 60 years, Covenant World Relief has led our denomination's response to human suffering and injustice around the world.  Currently, CWRD's partners are providing assistance to Ukrainian refugees in Poland, flood relief in Ethiopia, food security assistance in Central African Republic, and much more.

During the season of Lent, we have several opportunities to support CWRD's work with the poor and vulnerable:

  • Follow CWR's Facebook page or website to learn more about their work

  • Pray for CWR, their partners, and the people they serve

  • Pickup a "Can for Change" soup can from church to collect coins for CWRD, and bring it to our Easter Sunday service

  • Go to our church's giving page to contribute, and select the "Give to Covenant World Relief and Development" fund

  • Write a check any time with "CWRD" in the memo line

  • If you already give to our "Love Offering" each month, contributions in March and April will go to CWRD

Thank you for your support!

FEATURED UPDATES

JOIN OUR BURMESE SISTER CONGREGATION AS THEY CELEBRATE THEIR NEW CHURCH BUILDING THIS SUNDAY!

Back in 2014, GEECC invited a congregation of 100 Burmese believers - Bethel Senthang Baptist Church - to start worshipping at Glen Ellyn Covenant.  They have been meeting faithfully for worship in the gym every Sunday afternoon since, and their congregation has grown to nearly 300!

Last month, they purchased a lovely old church building in Villa Park.  They will worship there for the first time this Sunday, April 10, and have invited our church to join them.    Worship starts at 1pm at:

410 S Cornell Ave

Villa Park, IL 60181

We are grateful for the time we shared with BSBC at GEECC, and pray for God’s blessing on them as they start this new phase of ministry.

If you have questions, or if you want to carpool to the church on Sunday, contact Darren Miller (630-596-6486).

HOLY WEEK 2022

Please find all information regarding our Holy Week Services here.

CHOIR FOR EASTER SUNDAY

You are invited to sing in the choir for Easter Sunday, April 17th. There will be one rehearsal after worship on Sunday, April 10th. We will rehearse the “Easter Song” with the children, and then rehearse one other piece.   Contact Leslie with questions.

SOUP SUPPERS

The next soup supper is this Sunday. Please find all information here.

EASTER MEMORIAL FLOWERS

The sanctuary will be decorated on Easter Sunday, April 17, with flowers placed in memory or in honor of friends and loved ones. These donations will be used to purchase flowers for the Easter Sunday display and for other items that will enrich our worship experience.

Contributors are invited to take a plant home after the service on Easter.  Plants not claimed will be used to decorate the sanctuary in the weeks following Easter.

For inclusion in Easter worship, please complete this form along with your memorial or honorary gift, by Palm Sunday, April 10*.  For further information, please contact Kriste Sveen at kristesveen7@gmail.com or 630-248-6577.

*A Note about Payment: Separate check not required.  Please include your honorary gift in your general and missions offering check to the church, indicating the amount to be given to the “Easter Fund” in the memo portion of your check and on the offering envelope. You may also give through our website by clicking “Easter Fund” in the Give drop down menu. Thank you!
