THE ARK PRESCHOOL’S 55TH ANNIVERSARY

This year, The Ark Preschool joyfully celebrates its 55th anniversary of ministry, learning, and loving service to children and families in our community.

Founded in 1971 as a ministry of Glen Ellyn Evangelical Covenant Church, The Ark began with a vision:

To provide a new area of outreach;
To make fuller use of existing facilities;
To serve the community by providing a quality preschool program.

What began with one class of twenty, four-year-olds has grown into a thriving preschool ministry with over 100 children currently enrolled. The Ark Preschool has served generations of children and families over the past five and a half decades. Through changing times, expanding programs, and countless joyful memories, The Ark has remained committed to nurturing the “whole child” — physically, intellectually, emotionally, socially, and spiritually.

Throughout the years, dedicated directors, teachers, church staff, and volunteers have shared their gifts, creativity, compassion, and unwavering faith to make The Ark a place where children feel safe, valued, and loved. Their impact continues to ripple through the lives of the many families who have walked through our doors.

Today, The Ark continues its mission, led by Holly Pelsor (in her 11th year as Director) with gratitude for the strong foundation built by those who came before us and excitement for the future ahead. We celebrate not only the history of the school, but also the lasting relationships, Christ-centered learning, and treasured traditions that have made The Ark so special for 55 years.

As we mark this milestone anniversary, we give thanks to God for His faithfulness, guidance, provision, and protection throughout every season of The Ark’s journey. We are deeply grateful for every teacher, student, family, church member, and friend who has been part of this story.

Here’s to 55 years of learning, laughter, faith, and community — and to many more years ahead for The Ark Preschool.

PARKING LOT RENEWAL REQUEST

Our parking lot is struggling with potholes, cracks, and drainage issues that risk flooding our building. There is a recognition that we need to move beyond the “band aid” solution of patching and sealing. A “Better” option includes partial asphalt replacement, some professional repairs, sealcoating, and striping of the parking lot (estimated cost $120 thousand). The “Best” option includes full asphalt replacement, sealcoating, and striping of the parking lot (estimated cost $240 thousand). Both the “Better” and the “Best” options give us a parking lot that looks like new, meets current requirements for handicapped parking, removes tripping hazards, and provide an engineered solution for drainage issues. The advantage of the more expensive option (complete asphalt replacement) is that it prevents us from having to return for another parking lot "ask" in just a few years, allowing us to focus our future stewardship on other vital deferred maintenance items.

GEECC family, would you please pray and please consider giving a gift or pledge to help fill our funding gap? We have until May 30, 2026, to raise the funds. Any gifts or pledges given toward this project since the Congregational Meeting on Sunday will be counted toward our total.

Click here to give and use the dropdown menu to select “Give to Capital Projects”. If giving by check or cash please specify “Parking Lot” or “Capital Project” in the memo line or on the envelope.

Recording Pledges: If you would like to make a pledge by the May 30 deadline, please email our Financial Secretary (giving@gecovenant.org) directly so your commitment can be officially recorded toward our progress.

Thank you for your prayerful consideration and your continued commitment to the stewardship of our church home. Together, we are building a firm foundation for ministry yet to come.

SERMON: What difference does the Resurrection make?

Dear Church!

This Sunday we proclaim the good news of the Risen Jesus through his third post-resurrection appearance.

On Easter Sunday, we preached on Jesus appearing to Mary at the empty tomb. Last week, we preached about Jesus appearing to the couple on the road back to Emmaus. This Sunday, we preach on Jesus appearing to the disciples in the Upper Room.

With each appearance, we rehearse what it means to put our fears and doubts aside and follow with confidence the One who rose from the dead and conquered the grave.

What difference does the Resurrection make in our daily lives? All the difference.

See you in church!

SCRIPTURE: Ecclesiastes 12 & Matthew 21:1-11
SERMON: “Remember your Creator—Rejoice in your King”

Dear Friends,

Join us this Sunday – from wherever you may be - as we begin our journey to the cross.

On Palm Sunday, I will connect the end of our Ecclesiastes study with Matthew’s account of Jesus’ triumphant entrance into Jerusalem. The writer of Ecclesiastes asks the question: what is the purpose of life? The crowd in Jerusalem asks: who is this Jesus?  How we answer and understand the latter question, helps us answer the first.

Raise a “hosanna”  with us on Palm Sunday (children lead the procession of palms and then exit sanctuary with their teachers after the second worship song).
Worship and lament with us on Good Friday at our 6 pm Tenebrae service (no childcare, but activity materials will be available).
Give praise for our Risen Savior, Jesus Christ, on Easter morning at 9:30 am (children join the service with their families; childcare only for ages infant-3).

[*The Maundy Thursday Seder Dinner is full, but feel free to call the church office to get on a wait list or to check if there have been any cancellations.]

For the glory of God and for the good of our neighbors!

See you in church!
Pastor Dawn

PRAYER ROOM

During this Lenten season, you are invited to slow down, breathe deeply, and meet with God through a series of interactive prayer stations. Each space offers a different way to engage—through Scripture, reflection, creativity, confession, intercession, and praise. Move at your own pace. Let the Holy Spirit guide you. Whether you come with joy, questions, sorrow, or hope, may this be a place where you encounter the God who sees you, knows you, and invites you deeper into His love.
The Prayer Room is available throughout Lent and especially
on Sunday evenings during 5pm Prayer.
