SHARE YOUR STORY OF GOD’S FAITHFULNESS
THROUGH GE COVENANT CHURCH
2026 marks our church’s 80th anniversary! As part of our ongoing praise and celebration of what God has done and is doing through the ministries of our church, we are asking for folks to share stories of God’s faithfulness through the Glen Ellyn Evangelical Covenant Church. Do you have a story you would share with our congregation? The prompt is “Because of (A) at GEECC, God brought about (B).”
For a brief example: God led Korey Gregornik to volunteer at GEECC while he was a student at Wheaton College back in 2013. After Korey graduated from Wheaton, he went to work at Honeyrock Camp, where Joseph Sawyer was doing a gap-year program. That was how Joseph originally got connected to GEECC. Because God led Korey Gregornik to volunteer at GEECC while he was a student at Wheaton College back in 2013, Joseph Sawyer is now our Director of Student Ministries! Isn’t God amazing?!
I bet our church is FULL of these stories of God’s faithfulness, and we want to hear them! There are a few ways you can share YOUR story of God’s faithfulness:
You can submit a story in writing that we can share via the newsletter.
You can read your story on a Sunday morning.
You can also video yourself telling your story and we will show it either on our Youtube channel or on a Sunday Morning!
If you need help with sharing your story, please contact Carol in the office and we will help you choose how to share! We can’t wait to hear from you!

PROGRESS ON OUR PARKING LOT!
Thank you for your patience as our construction project continues. Because Door 5 and the south parking lot are unavailable, please note the following temporary parking and entrance procedures:
Sundays: Our south parking lot is available for seniors and those with disabilities. All others, please park at Hadley Middle School. Enter through:
Door 1 (Hawthorne, near Munson Hall - stairs)
Door 2 (Kenilworth, Sanctuary - stairs)
Door 3 (Kenilworth, The Ark - elevator accessible)
Tuesday-Friday (9:00 AM-4:00 PM): Parking is available in our south parking lot. Please call the church office at 630-469-5405 before or upon arrival, and a staff member will admit you through Door 1 or Door 2. All exterior doors remain locked. Please do not use Door 3 on weekdays, as it is reserved for The Ark.
Wednesday Evening Ministries (Kids Midweek, Jr/Hi League, Men's Bible Study): Parking available in our south parking lot and at Hadley Middle School. Enter/exit through Door 2, where staff will be available to let you in. Parents picking up children or students should use Door 2. Students may also exit through Door 2 for curbside pickup.
We're encouraged by the progress being made, even as these temporary changes create some inconvenience. Thank you for your flexibility!
ADULT SUNDAY SCHOOL
OCTOBER 11
KRISTE SVEEN
Stewardship of Creativity:
Finding the Holy Spirit
in the Psalms of Lament
Come see how the Lament Psalms show the creativity of the Holy Spirit in transforming our thinking and perspective. We are all created to be creative because we were created by a creative God! Creativity is just thinking differently. The Holy Spirit was given to us to help us think differently. Join Kriste as she leads us in Adult Sunday school this coming Sunday.
This painting by Kriste Sveen is inspired by the Hymn “How Great Thou Art” written by a Swedish Pastor after trekking thru a thunderstorm from a church meeting 2 miles away in 1886.

on November 20 and 21.
We are calling this event ThanksFEEDing.

GEECC JUSTICE BOOK CLUB
A CHRISTIAN RESPONSE TO ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE
THURSDAYS
7:30 to 8:30 on Zoom
Join us! We welcome new members! In October we are reading Pope Leo’s Encyclical on understanding humanity and artificial intelligence from a Biblical perspective of avoiding a “Tower of Babel” mentality and instead following the model of Nehemiah and his community building the wall of Jerusalem together. One special quote: “Technology in and of itself is not a solution to humanity’s problems, just as it is not inherently evil. In practice, however, technology is never neutral, because it takes on the characteristics of those who devise, finance, regulate and use it.”
Contact Mary Crickmore or the church office if you’d like to participate.

A Rocha & Churches of Restoration
A Rocha is an organization of Christians doing care of God’s Creation. You may not have heard of them, but there are already some connections with our church. Mary and Scott Crickmore have visited A Rocha’s sea turtle rescue site in Kenya and their rare bird habitat protection in France. Bradley Lauber has done an internship with A Rocha. Covenant Pastor Dave Swanson is on their board.
This year a core group of Emily Lee, Bradley Lauber, Darren Miller and Mary Crickmore will support our church to participate in A Rocha’s Churches of Restoration program to do creation-care-oriented projects. One component will be to focus on Creation Care during adult Sunday School over several Sundays in November. For other practical projects we have many options and are looking for input with your ideas. Some things we could consider are: having a group from our church participate with the Park District or Forest Preserve District in clean-up days; replanting butterfly milkweed that was removed in the parking lot renovation to a new location to help Monarch butterflies; reviewing what could help good management of our community garden plots; helping church members with native plant landscaping in their own yards; these are just a few on the list of possibilities.
We’ll have opportunity for discussion during Adult Sunday School but also want to include the youth group and children’s ministry, because learning about God through his wonderful Creation and caring for it helps people of all ages be close to God. If you have comments and ideas, talk to Emily, Bradley, Darren or Mary, we want to hear from you!
