BOOKS ON THE MOVE!!!

Thanks to those of you who contributed to and/or prayed for books to support
Tarcisio’s ministries in Zimbabwe!

Theological and other Christian books will be put to good use at the Evangelical Theological College.  The books may also help the college move towards accreditation.  In another part of Tarcisio’s ministry, children’s books will help the little ones hone their English language skills.
We collected 135 boxes of books at Glen Ellyn Evangelical Covenant Church.
A special ‘thank you’ goes out to Phil Haugen, Mark Jackson, and Bruce Munson who spent an afternoon loading, transporting, and unloading these boxes
(and another 99 boxes from the Wheaton College Library).
The books are now at Tyndale, who graciously agreed to palletize, shrink wrap, and hold for pick-up more than 200 boxes of books.
The journey continues…

SERMON SERIES

A YEAR LONG STUDY OF ROMANS

Dear Church,

We live in a time and place where people are familiar with debt. We carry debt in many ways: mortgages, student loans, various financing options when making a large purchases, etc. This week, as Paul continues his admonitions to the church in Rome to live out the gospel, he encourages his readers to have only the debt of love outstanding in their ledgers. In the gospel, God has poured out his love for us in such a way that it can never be paid back, but we are called to pay our debt of love to our neighbor, over and over again. In fact, Paul quotes his Lord, Jesus, and says the greatest way to obey God’s law, is to love our neighbors as ourselves. I can’t wait to worship with you on Sunday!

Peace,
Pastor Jeff

PARTNERS IN GOD’S KINGDOM BUILDING IN BELGIUM

Our church enthusiastically provided support via the Missions Opportunity Fund and Love Offering for Julius and Heleen’s exciting opportunity to purchase an impressive building in Belgium. This building offers amazingly suitable multi-function capabilities for meeting several specific needs in their community and for growing their recent Transformation Church plant.

Beyond the down payment to which our support will be directed, they will continue fundraising for longer-term monthly support to put toward the total purchase price. Engaging with individual partners for this endeavor will be especially helpful for the success of their project longer-term. Read more HERE
Further information is also available near the missions display case near Higher Grounds.

SERMON SERIES

A YEAR LONG STUDY OF ROMANS

Dear Church,

As we continue in our Eastertide season as people of the resurrection, we begin a new section of the book of Romans. After all that Paul has said in the first 11 chapters, he now comes to the place in the letter that explores the question, “Now how shall we live as people under God’s mercy?” How ought we to be in light of God’s promises to us that are “Yes!” and “Amen” in our resurrected Lord? It begins with worship! And worship is where we will be together this Sunday! I cannot wait to worship with you.

Peace,
Pastor Jeff

GOD’S KINGDOM BUILDING IN BELGIUM

Our partners in Belgium—Julius and Heleen—are pursuing an exciting opportunity that will meet several needs in their community and accelerate the growth of their recent church  plant. They are fundraising to purchase a very impressive building with varied spaces that would meet multiple needs. The building offers a venue for their Transformation Church, and unique spaces for setting up a revenue-generating coffee shop, preschool daycare, and gap-year work for young people. This amazing building also has residential space for meeting the many unique needs of Ukrainian refugees.

With a modest down payment of $109,000 by the middle of May, they will be able to secure this spectacular multi-function building. Julius and Heleen are also fundraising for longer-term monthly support toward the total purchase price. Read more here.

Glen Ellyn Covenant Church has committed support via the Missions Opportunity Fund. And we plan to collect a Love Offering on the first Sunday in May in support of their building purchase. Join us in person or online on Sunday, May 4 to hear more about this tremendous opportunity for Julius and Heleen and their Kingdom Building service in Belgium.

A YEAR LONG STUDY OF ROMANS

Dear Church,

This Sunday as we celebrate Palm Sunday, we will finish the section of Romans that we have been in for the last 6 weeks. As we celebrate Jesus coming into Jerusalem riding on a donkey, we will be reminded, as Paul explains, that God’s purpose in sending Christ was to have mercy on those who are disobedient, and in so doing, effectively banishing ungodliness from his people. Praise be to God for what he has accomplished in us through Jesus Christ! I am so thankful to be able to worship with you all this Sunday!

Peace,
Pastor Jeff

SERMON SERIES

A YEAR LONG STUDY OF ROMANS

Hello Church!

I pray you are experiencing the presence and mercy of the Lord this week.

At the end of Romans 10, Paul includes prophetic words from Isaiah 65, where God speaks on the salvation of the Gentiles and the stumbling of Israel: “I was found by those who did not seek Me; I revealed Myself to those who did not ask for me. But concerning Israel, all day long I have held out My hands to a disobedient and obstinate people.”

In Romans 11, Paul now responds to this prophecy assuring both the Jewish believers in the Roman church, and their Gentile brothers and sisters in Christ, that God is faithful to all who call upon His name in belief - all chosen by His merciful and abundant grace.

Join me on Sunday as we learn more about the amazing grace of our Lord. See you in church!

SERVE THE LORD IN JOY

“For as in one body we have many members, and the members do not all have the same function, so we, though many, are one body in Christ, and individually members one of another. Having gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, let us use them: if prophesy, in proprotion to our faith; if service, in our serving; the one who teaches, in his teaching; the one who exhorts, in his exhortation; the one who contributes, in generosity; the one who leads, with zeal; the one who does acts of mercy, with cheerfulness” Romans 12: 4-8
