ASH WEDNESDAY SERVICE
FEBRUARY 18 AT 6PM

We invite you to join us for our Ash Wednesday Service on February 18 at 6:00pm. This will be a service of reflection, prayer, and worship. As we enter the season of Lent, Jesus invites us to walk with him. Although we ought to do this all year round, Lent is an intentional time to pause and reflect on our own discipleship. Ash Wednesday begins us in this process as we reflect on our own mortality and our hope in the
gospel of Jesus Christ, which rescues us from sin and death.
I hope you will join us at 6:00pm in the sanctuary!

PRAY FOR OUR STUDENTS

Winter Retreat is always a meaningful weekend for our students. It’s a chance to step away from everyday distractions, build deeper relationships with one another, and spend focused time encountering God through worship, teaching, and shared experiences. Let’s be in prayer for our students as they have an opportunity for growth in their relationships and in their faith.

ADULT SUNDAY SCHOOL
FEBRUARY 22

There is NO Adult Sunday school this Sunday, February 15. But please join us beginning on Sunday February 22 for a 5 week series on “Wise Living”

SCRIPTURE: Ecclesiastes 5:1-20

SERMON SERIES:
LIFE UNDER THE SUN

Dear Church,

Join us this Sunday as we continue in our study of worship from the book of Ecclesiastes. How we worship reflects why we worship which reflects who we worship.

What does it mean to gather on one day of the week to worship together - and then what does it mean to take that worship out into our week? Is worship just for Sunday – or does it shape how we live our lives the rest of the week?

Afterwards, join our Adult Sunday School class featuring Kent Annan, Director of the Humanitarian Disaster Institute at Wheaton College, as we continue the theme of loving others in our community and in our world as a part of what it means to worship God.

See you in church!

Pastor Dawn

FOR THE 2ND IN HIS 3-WEEK SERIES ON

Dr. Paul DeNeui serves as Professor of Missiology and Intercultural Studies and directs the Center for World Christian Studies at North Park Theological Seminary. His calling to global ministry began through early experiences serving on Navajo reservation and grew into a lifelong commitment to contextualized mission.

Commissioned as a Covenant missionary to Thailand in 1987, Dr. DeNeui spent nearly two decades engaged in holistic ministry—integrating community development, leadership training, and church planting in partnership with Thai leaders. His work emphasized sustainable agriculture (raising fish and pigs!), local empowerment, and ministries of compassion among those affected by HIV/AIDS.

After earning his PhD in Intercultural Studies from Fuller Theological Seminary, Dr. DeNeui joined the NPTS faculty, where he teaches courses in missiology, contextual theology, and global Christian communication. Fully tenured in 2011, Dr. DeNeui equips students for intercultural leadership through programs that foster spiritual depth, cultural awareness, and global collaboration, and is known for his travel courses.

De Neui is ordained in the Evangelical Covenant Church since 1991. Since studying horticulture in college, he retains a deep interest in agriculture and is a master gardener.

GUEST PREACHER:
REVEREND DR. DANNY MARTINEZ
Superintendent of the Central Conference of the ECC

WE WELCOME PASTOR MARTINEZ TO THE PULPIT
AND TO ADULT SUNDAY SCHOOL
SUNDAY JANUARY 11

The Rev. Dr. Danny Martínez serves as the Superintendent of the Central Conference of the Evangelical Covenant Church. The Central Conference includes ministries found in Indiana, Illinois, Michigan (upper Peninsula) Eastern Missouri and Eastern Wisconsin, serving over 100 churches. He was elected for a third term as superintendent in 2025. Danny is the first superintendent in our denomination of Latino descent. His parents emigrated from Guatemala to the US, moving to Chicago.

Danny has served in several leadership roles, including worship leader, church planter, and in youth and lead pastor roles. He has served as President of ALIPE (Association of Latino churches of the ECC in the US). Danny moved back home to Chicago from San Diego, CA, in 2017. This was truly a call from the Lord to leave San Diego and his adult children.

Pastor Danny is an accomplished musician with many CDs in different genres of music including Latin Pop, Hard Rock, Contemporary Worship and Latin Groove. He recently released a new song, “Te Agradezco," which is a salsa worship song of praise, available on major streaming platforms including Spotify and Apple Music.

Dr. Martinez is a graduate of CHET, the Hispanic Center of Theological Studies, with a bachelor’s degree in theology. He also has a Master of Divinity and a Doctorate degree in Homiletics from Fuller Seminary. Danny loves the multicultural church and learning languages. He feels that every culture contributes something unique to the mosaic which is the Evangelical Covenant Church.

Pastor Danny is passionate about the Church, especially youth and children ministries in the church. He enjoys walking alongside churches of diverse ethnicities, socio-economic backgrounds, and multi-generational reach. Danny has a sense of humor. He values church participation during his preaching and sometimes he makes the congregation dance at no extra cost.

Danny’s three children, Eric, Alec and Angelique live in San Diego. They think he is an ancient relic from the 1980s. His sons and daughter are musicians and helped Danny plant several churches, serving as worship leaders. One of their pet peeves with their dad is when he sings songs with made up lyrics – sometimes even with his own songs.

STUDENT MINISTRIES WINTER RETREAT
”BELONGING”
REGISTER NOW & SAVE THE DATE!

It’s that time of year again. Winter Retreat registration is officially open!

February 20–22 we’re heading up to Covenant Harbor for a weekend packed with snow, friends, worship, and the kind of memories students talk about for months. Here are the need-to-knows:

Dates: February 20–22
Where: Covenant Harbor (Lake Geneva, WI)
Cost: $180 per student
Registration Closes: Friday, January 23
How to Register:

1.      Go to Covenant Harbor’s online Registration Portal.

2.      Select the person registering for Winter Camp 2026.

3.      Select and add to cart your group’s specific session date and group name.

4.      Complete all forms and payment.

The Winter Retreat Theme: Belonging. This year Covenant Harbor is focusing on what it means to belong to Jesus. In John 1:35–51 and Matthew 9:9–13, Jesus calls His disciples and shows that we are created to be known, loved, and welcomed by Him. In John 4:4–26 and Psalm 139, we see that He knows us completely and still loves us fully. His love then sends us out to love and serve others (Matthew 28:18–20; John 21:15–19). And in Acts 2:42–47, we see this belonging lived out in real community.

This weekend is always a highlight of the year! Feel free to share this with other parents. Let me know if you have any questions!

FINANCIAL UPDATE

”Give to the LORD the glory he deserves!
Bring your offering and come into his presence.
Worship the LORD in all his holy splendor.”
1Chronicles 16:29

PUTTING THE BOW ON THANKSFEEDING

Our Feed My Starving Children weekend was a perfect combination of the seasons of thankfulness and giving. It was yet another example of God’s goodness to us as we certainly received more than we gave…and we gave a lot! We gave the time and energy to pack our goal of 101,088 meals for hungry children in the world; we received inspiration, expanded community, feeling of purpose, and a time of enjoyment and fulfillment. Truly, Luke 6:38.

Thank you to all in our church family who prayed for the event and were able to participate in packing and providing hospitality for our guests. The FMSC organization has reported that 54,432 of the meals that we packed were shipped to Haiti to be distributed by an organization called  Love A Child, a non-profit Christian humanitarian organization, serving the needs of children in Haiti through schools, feeding programs, an orphanage and medical outreach.
The remaining 46,656 meals have been shipped to Peru to be distributed by  Cross Catholic Outreach, a ministry that partners with bishops, priests, religious and lay workers to provide food, water, housing, education, orphan support, medical care, microenterprise, disaster relief, and the love of our Lord Jesus Christ to the poorest of the poor in Peru and 29 other countries.
