Dear Church,

This Sunday, we join with all the people of God to worship our Awesome Creator! We join with people of every tribe, tongue, nation, and language as we gather together and participate in a foretaste of that great day when we will gather before the throne of God above. As we continue our series on joining God in God’s mission in the world, we will be looking at Revelation 7 and reflecting on the scope of God’s mission: A mosaic of people, washed in the blood of the lamb, worshiping the lamb. I cannot wait to worship with you this Sunday!

“A RENEWED IMAGINATION ”

Dear Church Family,

 We begin a new sermon series this coming Sunday to finish out our summer season: "Joining God in God’s Mission.” Each Sunday will be a reflection of God’s mission of salvation for the world and His invitation to us to join Him.

 This Sunday, Andrew Lauber will bring the Word, focusing on “The Source of Mission: A reconciled creation,” as it connects to Colossians 1:15-23.

 The following Sundays include: "The Heart of Mission" (Mark 10), "The Goal of Mission" (Revelation 7), "The Means of Mission" (Acts 12-13), and "The Power of Mission" (Luke 10 and Acts 1).

 I hope you can join us this August as we receive the Word of the Lord for our church.

Head home from church, have some lunch, then pack up your kids, beach towels and your sunscreen and meet with other families at the Rice Pool grassy area for some fun in the sun! (If you don’t have pool passes, check out the Wheaton Park District website for cost). Rice Pool has lots to do; water slides, diving boards, zero depth splash areas, a waterfall, and a sand play area.
Tons of fun in the sun! PLUS, you can hang out with your church friends! Hope to see you there!

Make your plans now to drop off your kids at church for a fun-filled night, while you have a date night, or get some errands done, or whatever! The evening for your kids will consist of GAMES, DINNER, AND A MOVIE. Please send along a sack-supper with your kids (no nuts please!). And please remember to register your kids by going to the Children’s Ministry page on our website. PNO is joyfully led by our own Student Ministry: any donation will be much appreciated!

PARENT’S NIGHT OUT

RICE POOL MEET-UP

PARENTS NIGHT OUT on Saturday July 19 5pm-8pm: Parents, our popular Parent’s Night Out is almost upon us! Make your plans now to drop off your kids at church for a fun-filled night, while you have a date night, or get some errands done, or whatever! The evening for your kids will consist of GAMES, DINNER, AND A MOVIE. Please send along a sack-supper with your kids (no nuts please!). And please remember to register your kids by going to the Children’s Ministry page on our website. PNO is joyfully led by our own Student Ministry: any donation will be much appreciated!

RICE POOL FAMILY MEET-UP on Sunday July 20 at 2pm: Head home from church, have some lunch, then pack up your kids, beach towels and your sunscreen and meet with other families at the Rice Pool grassy area for some fun in the sun! (If you don’t have pool passes, check out the Wheaton Park District website for cost). Rice Pool has lots to do; water slides, diving boards, zero depth splash areas, a waterfall, and a sand play area.
Tons of fun in the sun! PLUS, you can hang out with your church friends! Hope to see you there !

SERMON SERIES

A YEAR LONG STUDY OF ROMANS

“Dear Church,

This past week, Pastor Jeff and I attended “Gather,” the annual meeting of the Evangelical Covenant Church. The first day of meetings is the ministerium – ECC ministers from around the globe. We hear from missionaries from each continent, as well as leaders from the denomination, North Park Theological Seminary, and North Park University. The second days of meetings, ministers are joined by representatives from every Covenant church – a beautiful picture of the intertwining between ordained and lay leadership that makes our churches work best.
Our president, Tammy Swanson-Draheim, shared this quote that defines the mission of the Evangelical Covenant Church: “Living into the kingdom of God through the prayerful, intergenerational, multiethnic, growing movement of churches served by women and men striving to follow in the way of Jesus by loving others as Jesus loves us.”
Paul’s challenge and encouragement to us from Romans 14-15 – to accept one another and bear with one another in our weaknesses – will give us the strength to fulfill that mission, through the power of the Holy Spirit, at Glen Ellyn Covenant.

This week we will continue to look at what it means to be free in Christ. Paul offers a picture of freedom that stands in stark difference from the way the world defines freedom. Paul calls us to see our freedom as an obligation to our brother and sister, and so contribute to the kingdom of God, which is a matter of peace and joy in the Holy Spirit. I cannot wait to worship with you on Sunday!

A YEAR LONG STUDY OF ROMANS

Dear Church,

In Romans 14, Paul continues with the theme of church unity. This is not understood as “uniformity” but a more radical kind of relationship among believers who lay down their needs for the sake of others in Christian community. He uses two examples of places where the church (particularly Jewish believers and Gentile believers) are divided. In our modern-day churches, we might not be divided over these two particular issues. But we recognize from Paul’s concerns the many ways that Christians can be divided. Let us all at Glen Ellyn Covenant Church never lose sight of our common heritage as brothers and sisters of Christ and mutual members of the family of God.

PORCH TIME WITH PASTOR DAWN

Three times this summer, the women of our church will have an opportunity to
gather at Pastor Dawn’s home for Bible reading, prayer, and fellowship.
Our first gathering is next week:
Come either Monday June 16 at 7pm or Tuesday June 17 at 10am.
Both gatherings are at Pastor Dawn’s home.
We will read and discuss passages about unnamed women of the gospels, women who played a pivotal role in Jesus’ ministry and the advancement of the gospel.

BOOKS ON THE MOVE!!!

Thanks to those of you who contributed to and/or prayed for books to support
Tarcisio’s ministries in Zimbabwe!
Theological and other Christian books will be put to good use at the Evangelical Theological College.  The books may also help the college move towards accreditation.  In another part of Tarcisio’s ministry, children’s books will help the little ones hone their English language skills. 
We collected 135 boxes of books at Glen Ellyn Evangelical Covenant Church. 
A special ‘thank you’ goes out to Phil Haugen, Mark Jackson, and Bruce Munson who spent an afternoon loading, transporting, and unloading these boxes
(and another 99 boxes from the Wheaton College Library). 
The books are now at Tyndale, who graciously agreed to palletize, shrink wrap, and hold for pick-up more than 200 boxes of books. 
The journey continues…
